Ocean7 Airnautic Early Bird - The "Pepsi" Bezel Makes It Striking, A Review

An interesting watch design that I have always been interested in is the 24 hour watch concept. For every 24 hours, the hour hand only moves one rotation around the dial. Reading the dial becomes a unique experience.

Originally I was looking the Glycine brand which has a few models using the 24 hour watch concept. However, the price was too much for me so I decided put this pursuit on the back burner.

When I got my LM3 from Ocean7 (see here for the review of that particular watch), I noticed that Ocean7 also has a watch with such a concept. The best thing of all is that it is cheap and designed as a diver as well, two of my primary criteria when trolling for watches.

After aggregating the necessary funds to make the purchase, I made the order via its website http://www.ocean7watchco.com/store/ and before long, the watch was in my hands.

The Ocean7 Airnautic Early Bird watch is designed as a diver. Capable of diving down to 300 m, the watch case resembles the oyster case. The bezel is uni-directional and has a gear-like shape and marked by even numbers. A lumed pip is at the 24 hour position. Half of the bezel is blue (between 0 hours and 12 hours) while the other half is red (13 hours to 24 hours). The colour signifies night-time and day-time hours.

The dial itself is black with 24 markers. There are Arabic numberings from 1 to 24 on the outer edge of the dial. The hour hand is a large arrow head that is lumed and the minute hand is like a sword, also lumed. The second hand has a lumed dot near the edge. The lume used is the Swiss Super-LumNova paint.

The only text shown on the dial are "AIRNAUTIC", "Early Bird" and "SWISS MADE".

This watch does not come with a day or date display.

The screw-down case back is solid and plain. Only important information about the watch is etched on it.

The watch is powered by the Swiss automatic movement ETA 2893-2 GMT. This movement has a 40 hour power reserve.

Ocean7 exchanged the GMT hand with the hour hand and left the actual hour hand socket empty. Hence the effect of the 24 hour was created for this watch. To adjust, pull the crown to the first position where one would normally adjust the date function. From this position, one can adjust the hour hand. Put the crown to the second position and this allows you to adjust the minute hand.

The screw-down crown is situated at the 3 o'clock position and "07" logo is etched on the surface. It is protected by metal shoulders.

From the photo below, you can also see the solid bracelet.

The watch is made out of brushed stainless steel with polished sides. The diameter of the watch is
42 mm diameter with a height of 12 mm. The glass is flat sapphire crystal with inside AR coating.

The watch with an "Oyster" style bracelet with diver clasp. The "OCEAN7" brand is sand-blasted on the clasp.

What I like about this watch is the bridge linking the two halves of the bracelet are solid machined bars instead of the typical stamped sheet metal. This makes it look luxurious.

Below is a video review I made about the watch.

Below is a short video of the movement of the second-hand and how it looks on a wrist.

The "pepsi" like bezel makes this watch very striking on the wrist. It is comfortable to wear and can also be worn in a formal setting. I like it very much.
